The summary GST return through which tax is paid and input tax credit is claimed.
GSTR-3B is where the money moves. It summarises outward supplies, inward supplies attracting reverse charge, and the input tax credit being claimed, and it is the return against which tax is actually paid for the period.
For a pharmacy the input credit side is dominated by purchases from distributors. That credit has to be supported by the supplier having reported the corresponding invoice, which is why a purchase invoice missing from the supplier's own return becomes your problem at filing time rather than theirs.
Credit also has to be reversed in the right circumstances — notably where stock is written off or destroyed, which is the usual position for expired medicine that cannot be returned. Where the stock goes back to the distributor instead, the reversal follows the credit note.
GSTR-3B must reconcile with GSTR-1. Persistent gaps between the two attract scrutiny even where the underlying tax is correct.
