What a medical store bill has to carry

• The right GST slab per medicine. The rate belongs to the product. Most medicines are at 5% following the September 2025 GST Council revision; a few categories sit higher, as do the general goods a shop also sells. One hardcoded rate across the catalogue will file wrong.
• A batch and an expiry. Not a total quantity — the specific batch the strip came from, so the shelf, the bill and any future recall agree.
• Schedule H1 details when they apply. Prescriber, patient, batch, quantity — captured at the counter, because that is the only moment the prescription is in front of you.
• A GSTIN, an invoice series and a running number that will still reconcile at month end.

Get those four right and the month-end work mostly disappears, because there is nothing left to reconstruct.

Billing has to be faster than the queue

A medical store's constraint is not features, it is the counter at 7pm. Four ways to put a medicine on a bill, and the right one depends on the moment:

• Type it. Search across a catalogue of 2,54,034 medicines plus your own shelf, matching on brand or salt.
• Say it. Voice billing in English, Hindi and Hinglish — "dolo six fifty do strip" — for when both hands are busy. The spoken strength is understood as a strength, not as a quantity.
• Photograph the prescription. The medicines are read off the image and put on a draft you confirm.
• Photograph the purchase invoice to bring stock in, rather than typing a delivery line by line.

Every route ends in a draft a human confirms. Nothing is billed, and no stock moves, without that confirmation.

Which of these are free: typing, the barcode scanner, and photographing the purchase invoice to bring stock in are all in the free tier — the stock import accepts a photo, a PDF or a spreadsheet at no charge. Voice billing and photographing a prescription are the paid ones, on Starter at ₹399/month as of September 2026. We would rather say that here than have you find it at the counter.

Stock that knows its own batches

Stock is held per batch — batch number, expiry, quantity, purchase rate and distributor — which is what makes the rest possible. When a medicine goes on a bill, the soonest-expiring sellable batch is chosen automatically (FEFO), and Nesayo refuses to bill a batch once its expiry month has passed — refused, not warned about, because selling an expired batch is an offence under Section 27 of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.

Expiry is surfaced in 30/60/90-day buckets, which is the shape that matches a distributor's return window — the deadline that actually decides whether an expiring pack is a return or a loss. More on expiry and batch management →

Getting existing stock in: CSV, Excel and pipe-delimited exports are read directly, including exports from the desktop systems most shops already run. Bring the file you have rather than retyping the shelf.

GST and the registers, without the month-end scramble

GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B summaries export as JSON and CSV for your CA to file, built from the bills as they were issued rather than reconstructed afterwards. They are a summary for your CA, not a file the GST portal accepts as an upload.

Schedule H1 sales are logged automatically at billing: date, medicine, batch, quantity and bill number, with the patient and prescriber names entered on the bill. Batch and quantity come from what the sale actually deducted, and each entry carries its bill number, so the log and the invoices reconcile line for line. The parts after the sale

• Customer ledgers — invoices, payments and balance per customer, for the regulars who settle monthly.
• UPI QR on the invoice, so a payment can be taken without a separate device or a manual entry afterwards.
• Distributor purchase orders with WhatsApp confirmation, and a ledger of what is owed to whom.
• Returns and credit notes, including expiry returns to the distributor.
• Offline fallback — billing keeps working through an ordinary connection drop and reconciles on reconnect.
