GSTR-1

The monthly or quarterly GST return reporting outward supplies — a pharmacy's sales.

GSTR-1 reports what you sold. For a retail pharmacy most of that is B2C, which is filed in summary rather than invoice by invoice, with B2B sales reported individually so the buyer can claim input credit against them.

The return is summarised by HSN and by rate, which is why the HSN code and GST rate recorded against each medicine at billing time determine whether the return can be produced without manual rework at month end. A shop that bills without recording HSN has to reconstruct it later from the purchase invoices.

GSTR-1 pairs with GSTR-3B, the summary return through which tax is actually paid and input credit claimed. The two must agree; mismatches between them are among the most common triggers for a notice.

Filing frequency depends on turnover — monthly, or quarterly under the QRMP scheme. Confirm which applies to your registration with your CA rather than assuming.
