Why pharmacies switch from MargBooks

No free tier — every plan starts at a paid annual slab

Per the feature comparison, MargBooks' cheapest plan (Gold) is ₹5,400/year with a 7-day free trial and no free-forever option, per margbooks.com/pricing.html as of September 2026. Nesayo's billing tier is free forever with no invoice limit, so a shop can run real bills indefinitely before deciding to pay for anything.

Invoices beyond the plan cap cost extra

MargBooks' plans cap invoice counts (5,000 to 1 lakh depending on tier) and charge ₹0.80 per invoice beyond that, per margbooks.com/pricing.html. A busy season that pushes past the cap adds a variable cost that's hard to predict in advance. Nesayo's free billing tier has no invoice cap to run into.

No Schedule H1 register or FEFO named on the site

As the full comparison records, margbooks.com does not name "Schedule H1 register" or "FEFO" anywhere on the site as of September 2026, though it does list Expiry Management and batch/expiry record-keeping that cover related ground. A pharmacy that wants its Schedule H1 sales logged at billing may need to verify directly with Marg Compusoft how MargBooks records them.

No voice billing or prescription photo scan listed

The comparison records neither as listed on margbooks.com's pricing or pharmacy feature pages as of September 2026. Nesayo's voice billing takes Hindi and English (beta, on paid plans from ₹249/month as of October 2026), and it reads a prescription photo into a draft bill.

No named AI agents

MargBooks' pharmacy page lists Re-order Management as a feature, but not autonomous agents that run on a schedule. Nesayo runs 5 named agents (Morning Briefing, Expiry Guard, Refill Radar, Stock Sense, Payment Advisor) that surface proposals for the pharmacist to approve.

When to stay on MargBooks

MargBooks is a genuine pharmacy-oriented product, not generic retail billing — its pharmacy edition lists Expiry Management, Prescription Management, Rack Management, Re-order Management, E-Way Bill generation and E-Invoice, per margbooks.com/pharmacy-software.html. If your shop actively uses E-Way Bill generation or E-Invoice, MargBooks covers both and Nesayo currently does not.

Rack management — tracking a medicine's physical shelf location — is a MargBooks feature Nesayo doesn't offer today. A larger store that relies on rack lookups for staff efficiency has a real reason to stay.

If your pharmacy is already on a higher MargBooks tier (Platinum or Platinum Plus) for multi-user or multi-GSTIN support, or is heading toward Enterprise for multi-branch, that's an established setup with support infrastructure behind it — switching software mid-operation is a real cost, not just a feature checklist.

The honest gap Nesayo closes is specifically the free-forever billing tier and the Schedule H1 log at billing, FEFO, voice, photo-scan and AI-agent features — not a claim that MargBooks lacks pharmacy capability. It has real pharmacy features; the comparison above is about which specific ones each product ships.

How the migration actually works

1

Export your stock list from MargBooks

Use MargBooks' own item/inventory export to produce a stock file with whatever fields your plan's export includes. Keep the raw file before changing anything.

5-10 minutes
2

Upload the file to Nesayo

Nesayo's stock import reads CSV, TSV and Excel files and matches columns by what the header means, not an exact template. Batch and expiry fields MargBooks already tracks carry over directly; for anything the file doesn't state, Nesayo's catalogue fills in manufacturer, HSN, GST and a schedule hint where a name matches — everything your file already states is kept exactly as exported.

2-5 minutes to upload; a few minutes to parse and match
3

Confirm the Schedule H1 register mapping

Since MargBooks doesn't name a Schedule H1 register on its site, this is the one step worth doing by hand: check that H1 medicines on your imported list are correctly flagged, since Nesayo's classifier defaults anything it can't confidently place to Schedule H (prescription-required), never to over-the-counter.

10-20 minutes depending on catalogue size
4

Review flagged rows before anything goes live

Rows the importer can't confidently place are held for manual review rather than auto-promoted.

15-30 minutes depending on catalogue size
5

Run both systems in parallel for a few days

Bill normal traffic through Nesayo while keeping MargBooks live as a fallback, especially if you rely on its E-Way Bill or E-Invoice generation for existing orders. Check stock deductions, GST calculation and the Schedule H1 log match what you expect before relying on Nesayo alone.

3-7 days
6

Cut over

Once the parallel run checks out, stop billing on MargBooks and move fully to Nesayo. Keep MargBooks access for historical records — GST requires 6 years of sales records, and D&C Rule 65 requires 2 years for general sale records and 3 years for the Schedule H1 register (Rule 65(3)(h)) — until your MargBooks plan term allows you to let it lapse.

1 day, plus a retention window on the old system

Frequently asked questions

Is Nesayo cheaper than MargBooks?

On billing, yes — Nesayo's billing tier is free forever with no invoice cap, where MargBooks' cheapest plan is ₹5,400/year (Gold, 5,000 invoices) as of September 2026, plus ₹0.80 per invoice beyond that cap. If you add Nesayo's Full plan (₹549/month), it's still below MargBooks' higher tiers, and new pharmacies get Full free for their first month.

Will I lose historical data when I move from MargBooks to Nesayo?

No stock or billing history is deleted as part of switching. Keep MargBooks access after cutover for record retention rather than closing it immediately: GST requires 6 years of sales records, and D&C Rule 65 requires 2 years for general sale records and 3 years for the Schedule H1 register (Rule 65(3)(h)).

Does Nesayo require a specific export format from MargBooks?

No. Nesayo's import reads CSV, TSV and Excel files and matches columns by what the header means, so a standard MargBooks stock export works without reformatting. Batch and expiry fields MargBooks already tracks carry over directly.

What happens to Schedule H1 medicines during the switch?

Every imported medicine goes through Nesayo's classification: a known Schedule H1 salt or pattern is flagged automatically, and anything the importer can't confidently classify defaults to Schedule H (prescription-required), never to over-the-counter. Since MargBooks doesn't name a Schedule H1 register on its own site, double-check H1 flags on the imported list by hand before relying on it.

My pharmacy needs E-Way Bill or E-Invoice generation — should I still switch?

Probably not fully, or not yet. MargBooks lists both as features on margbooks.com/pharmacy-software.html and Nesayo does not currently offer either. Some shops run MargBooks for E-Way Bill/E-Invoice needs and Nesayo for day-to-day counter billing in parallel; a full switch makes more sense once that gap is closed or if those features aren't part of your regular workflow.

Can I try Nesayo before fully switching off MargBooks?

Yes — sign up for the free billing tier, import a copy of your MargBooks stock export during your free first month of Full, and run a parallel week before deciding anything. New pharmacies also get the Full plan free for their first month, with no card.

Does MargBooks do anything Nesayo can't?

Yes: E-Way Bill generation, E-Invoice generation, and rack (shelf-location) management are listed on MargBooks' pharmacy feature page and Nesayo doesn't offer any of the three today. If your shop uses those regularly, that's a genuine reason to stay — see "when to stay" above.

Is MargBooks a bad choice for pharmacies?

No — it's a dedicated pharmacy product with expiry, batch, prescription and rack management features, not generic retail software. The reasons pharmacies look at Nesayo instead are the free-forever billing tier, no per-invoice overage, and a Schedule H1 log at billing, FEFO, voice billing, prescription photo scan and AI agents — not a claim that MargBooks lacks pharmacy capability.
