PCI HPR/DIGI-PHARMed Deadline — Who the 28 August 2026 Cutoff Applied To

2026-08-23 • 5 min read

Update, 29 August 2026: the 28 August deadline has now passed, and it did not apply to every pharmacist. PCI's own follow-up notice (23 August 2026) states the 15-day timeline was "applicable only to pharmacists who are already registered and have an existing profile on the DIGI-PHARMed Portal," that pharmacists without an existing profile face "no restriction or deadline," and explicitly warns against circulating misleading information about the deadline. If you already had a DIGI-PHARMed profile and missed the window, see "What To Do If You Missed the Deadline" below. If you never had a profile, this deadline was never yours — see "Who This Affects."

On 13 August 2026, the Pharmacy Council of India issued a circular (Ref: POLICY-13014/2/2025-POLICY, signed by Registrar-Cum-Secretary Anil Mittal) that most pharmacists had not seen at the time, addressed to "All Pharmacists, State Pharmacy Councils, State Governments, and Approved Institutions." It gave pharmacists already registered on the DIGI-PHARMed Portal 15 days from the date of issuance to validate their Health Professional Registry (HPR) profile. Fifteen days from 13 August was 28 August 2026.

The circular's own words, verbatim: "All existing users are required to complete and validate their HPR profile within 15 (fifteen) days from the date of issuance of this Circular to avoid the de-activation of the profile."

This isn't a Nesayo product update — it's a PCI regulatory requirement that applies whether or not you use any billing software at all. We're publishing this because we could not find a single other source explaining it clearly with the actual portal link, and a deactivated pharmacist profile is not a small thing to discover after the fact.

What's Actually Happening

The PCI is integrating its Pharmacist Registration and Tracking System (PRTS)/DIGI-PHARMed Portal with the Health Professional Registry (HPR) — a registry run by the National Health Authority (NHA) under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM). The stated goal is a standardized, digitally verifiable registry of pharmacist credentials integrated with the national digital health ecosystem, the same registry that already covers doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.

Practically, this means every pharmacist's registration record now needs an associated HPR profile, verified through e-KYC, before it's considered complete.

Who This Affects

Existing pharmacists already registered on the DIGI-PHARMed Portal with a valid BH-P Number (your portal username) — this is the group with the 28 August deadline.

New pharmacists registering for the first time, from the Go-Live date of 12 August 2026 onward — HPR profile generation is now a mandatory part of the registration process itself, not a separate later step.

What You Actually Need to Do (Existing Pharmacists)

  1. Go to digipharmed.pci.gov.in and log in with your existing credentials.
  2. You'll get a pop-up prompting you to update your profile with e-KYC and any missing information.
  3. Review and validate the personal, professional, educational, and registration details already in the system — these are pre-filled from your existing record, not entered from scratch.
  4. Complete any pending fields the system flags as required for HPR.
  5. Complete the HPR profile generation/registration process as the portal prompts.
  6. Your State Pharmacy Council (SPC) then scrutinizes the updated profile. Once approved, your HPR Card is generated.

The circular is explicit that the review step sits with your SPC, not PCI directly — so completing your side by 28 August is what avoids deactivation; the SPC approval and card generation can follow after.

If You Hit a Technical Problem

The circular gives a specific grievance path, not a generic support email:

  1. Go to the grievance portal: digipharmed.pci.gov.in/#/login-issue
  2. Select User Type — "Pharmacists" if you're an existing registered user, "Others" if you're a new pharmacist.
  3. Choose Department as "IT" and Issue Type as "HPR/Pharmacists Registration or Profile Issues."
  4. Attach relevant information and screenshots if you have them, and submit — the grievance is validated via OTP.

Why We're Writing About This

Nesayo has no involvement with HPR or the DIGI-PHARMed Portal, and this deadline is not something our software tracks or automates for you — we want to be direct about that rather than imply otherwise. We wrote this because it's exactly the kind of regulatory deadline that affects every practicing pharmacist regardless of what billing software they use, we could verify it from the actual PCI circular rather than secondhand, and — five days out at time of writing — most pharmacists we've talked to hadn't heard about it yet.

What To Do If You Missed the Deadline

The 28 August window has passed. If you already had a DIGI-PHARMed profile and didn't validate it in time, PCI's circular doesn't spell out a separate "late" process — the grievance path above (login-issue page, Dept IT, Issue Type "HPR/Pharmacists Registration or Profile Issues") is still the right first step, since a technical/access issue is exactly what it exists for. Beyond that, your State Pharmacy Council is the authoritative source on what deactivation means for your specific registration and how to reactivate — we'd rather point you there than guess at a process PCI hasn't published.

If you never had a DIGI-PHARMed profile in the first place, this deadline was never yours to begin with — see "Who This Affects" above. Don't let a headline (including our original one, before this update) convince you otherwise; PCI's own 23 August notice explicitly warns against circulating misleading information about who this deadline covers.

FAQ

What exactly happens if I miss the 28 August deadline?

The circular states existing users must validate within 15 days "to avoid the de-activation of the profile." The circular does not spell out every downstream consequence of deactivation (for example, whether it affects your ability to practice or dispense), so if you're unsure what deactivation means for your specific situation, the grievance portal (see above) or your State Pharmacy Council is the right place to ask directly rather than guess.

I'm a pharmacist but I've never registered on the DIGI-PHARMed Portal — does this affect me?

The 15-day deadline is specifically for pharmacists already registered with a valid BH-P Number (portal username). If you've never registered on that portal at all, this specific circular's urgent deadline doesn't apply to you the same way — but HPR profile generation is now mandatory for all new registrations from 12 August 2026 onward, so you'll encounter it as part of registering.

Where do I find my BH-P Number if I don't remember it?

The circular doesn't cover BH-P Number recovery specifically. Your State Pharmacy Council, which holds your original registration record, is the right first point of contact if you can't locate it.

Is this the same as Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) registration for patients?

No — HPR (Healthcare Professional Registry) registers healthcare providers (doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and others), while ABHA registers patients. Both sit under the same Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, which is why you'll see ABDM referenced in both contexts, but they're separate registries serving different purposes.

Does completing HPR registration cost anything?

The circular does not mention any fee for the HPR validation/registration process itself. If a fee is later introduced, PCI's own circulars and your State Pharmacy Council would be the authoritative source — we'd rather point you there than guess.
