Why pharmacies switch from Vyapar

No pre-loaded medicine catalogue listed

Vyapar does not list a pre-loaded medicine catalogue publicly as of September 2026; its pages list bulk item upload, barcode import and OCR for purchase bills instead. Nesayo comes with more than 2.5 lakh medicines pre-loaded with instant search, so adding stock or billing at the counter is a search-and-select, not a fresh typing job every time.

Voice billing and prescription-photo reading aren't listed

Neither is listed publicly by Vyapar as of September 2026 (Vyapar lists prescription upload for reference). Nesayo's voice billing takes Hindi and English (beta, on paid plans from ₹249/month as of October 2026), and it reads a prescription photo into a draft bill for the pharmacist to check — useful specifically at a pharmacy counter, less so for general retail.

Drug-interaction checks at billing

Vyapar does not list drug-interaction checking publicly as of September 2026. Before a counter bill is saved, Nesayo names any known interacting salt pair on the save screen as an informational prompt to check with the prescriber; bills drafted in chat show it too.

AI agents that ask before they act

Vyapar lists low-stock and expiry alerts and automated payment reminders; it does not list AI agents publicly as of September 2026. Nesayo's Full plan (₹549/month as of October 2026) adds five agents — Morning Briefing, Expiry Guard, Refill Radar, Stock Sense and Payment Advisor — that queue proposals for the pharmacist to approve rather than acting on their own.

When to stay on Vyapar

The honest dividing line is medicine share of revenue, not brand preference: if medicines are under roughly 20% of your turnover, staying on general retail software is a reasonable choice — and Vyapar's pharmacy edition already lists batch and expiry tracking with FEFO rotation, near-expiry alerts and a digital Schedule H/H1 register.

Vyapar's accounting goes further than a pharmacy-first tool — it lists balance sheet, P&L and cash-flow summaries, and it lists e-invoicing and e-way bills too. If your shop needs a balance sheet, cash-flow statements or e-invoices, Vyapar covers them and Nesayo does not yet.

Vyapar is a mature, widely-used product with a large existing user base — real people you can ask for help, which matters the same way a dealer network matters for other vendors.

Non-medicine retail (Patanjali products, cosmetics, general FMCG, ORS) works on Nesayo — scan a barcode, set price and GST once — but there's no pre-loaded general-retail catalogue the way there is for medicines. A shop that's mostly non-pharmacy retail may find Vyapar's category coverage a better fit out of the box.

How the migration actually works

1

Export your stock list from Vyapar

Use Vyapar's own item/inventory export to produce a CSV or Excel file of your current stock — whatever fields your export includes. Keep the raw file before changing anything.

5-10 minutes
2

Upload the file to Nesayo

Nesayo's stock import reads CSV, TSV and Excel files and matches columns by what the header means, not an exact template. Vyapar tracks batch and expiry, so include those columns in your export where your plan allows; Nesayo's catalogue fills manufacturer, HSN, GST and a schedule hint for names it recognises, and keeps everything your file states.

2-5 minutes to upload; a few minutes to parse and match
3

Check batch and expiry on the first stock-in

If your export carried batch and expiry columns, spot-check that they came across correctly. Where a batch or expiry is missing, enter it as new stock arrives — existing on-shelf stock can be entered as a single opening batch per medicine if exact batch history isn't available.

Ongoing, as stock is added — not a one-time blocker
4

Review flagged rows before anything goes live

Rows the importer can't confidently place are held for manual review. This is also where Schedule H1 medicines get their register flag confirmed — nothing unverifiable defaults to over-the-counter.

15-30 minutes depending on catalogue size
5

Run both systems in parallel for a few days

Bill normal traffic through Nesayo while keeping Vyapar live as a fallback, especially if you rely on Vyapar's formal accounting reports. Check stock deductions, GST calculation and the Schedule H1 log match what you expect before relying on Nesayo alone.

3-7 days
6

Cut over

Once the parallel run checks out, stop billing on Vyapar and move fully to Nesayo. Keep Vyapar access for a few weeks for historical records — GST requires 6 years of sales records; D&C Rule 65 requires 2 years for general sale records and 3 years for the Schedule H1 register (Rule 65(3)(h)).

1 day, plus a retention window on the old system

Frequently asked questions

Is Nesayo cheaper than Vyapar?

Both have a free tier: Nesayo billing is free, and Vyapar lists a free plan, with paid plans billed annually + 18% GST (see vyaparapp.in/pricing). Nesayo's optional Essential plan is ₹249/month and the Full plan ₹549/month (₹5,490/year), as of October 2026. Pharmacies switch for voice billing, prescription-photo reading and AI agents, not for a lower bill.

Will I lose historical data when I move from Vyapar to Nesayo?

No stock or billing history is deleted as part of switching. Keep your Vyapar account accessible after cutover for record retention rather than closing it immediately: GST requires 6 years of sales records, and D&C Rule 65 requires 2 years for general sale records and 3 years for the Schedule H1 register (Rule 65(3)(h)).

Does Nesayo require a specific export format from Vyapar?

No. Nesayo's import reads CSV, TSV and Excel files and matches columns by what the header means, so Vyapar's own export works without reformatting. Include batch and expiry columns where your plan's export allows; manufacturer, HSN, GST and a schedule hint are filled from the catalogue where a name matches, and anything still missing is left for you to confirm.

What happens to Schedule H1 medicines during the switch?

Every imported medicine goes through Nesayo's classification: a known Schedule H1 salt or pattern is flagged automatically, and anything the importer can't confidently classify defaults to Schedule H (prescription-required), never to over-the-counter. You'll confirm a small number of borderline items by hand.

My shop sells more general retail (FMCG, cosmetics) than medicines — should I still switch?

Probably not, or not fully. The honest dividing line in the source comparison is medicine share of revenue: under roughly 20% medicine share, staying on general retail software is a reasonable choice. Above roughly 60%, a pharmacy-specific tool starts to matter a lot more. You can run both side by side for a while before deciding.

Can I try Nesayo before fully switching off Vyapar?

Yes — sign up for the free billing tier, import a copy of your Vyapar stock export during your free first month of Full, and run a parallel week before deciding. Every new pharmacy also gets the Full plan free for its first month, with no card.

Does Vyapar do anything Nesayo can't?

Yes: fuller accounting — Vyapar lists balance sheet, P&L and cash-flow summaries — plus e-invoicing and e-way bills, and broader general-retail category support out of the box. If your shop needs formal accounting or e-invoices, or sells mostly non-medicine products, that's a genuine reason to stay — see "when to stay" above.
